Montessori School of Pensacola (MSP), along with McClelland Tennis Academy, have partnered to celebrate World Tennis Day on Mar. 6 with a clinic, organized games, food, prizes and tennis tips from 3-6pm. The event is free and open to the public, at MSP’s specially designed tennis courts located on its main campus, 4100 Montessori Drive. Last year, grants from the US Tennis Association and USTA Florida covered the cost to build the tennis courts at MSP, which are specially designed for children aged 10 and under. Until then, the closest 10-and-under courts were in Jacksonville. The new courts are also more accessible to the disabled and seniors. Event attendance is free, although donations will be accepted to benefit the local Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). "The tennis community in Pensacola is a generous group. USTA is excited that Montessori School of Pensacola and McClelland Tennis Academy are coming together to support tennis on World Tennis Day in a way that will benefit a meaningful organization. We hope this event will get people excited about tennis, while also supporting the families and mission of Ronald McDonald House," said Tara Dominguez, USTA Tennis Program Coordinator for the Gulf Coast Region. Ronald McDonald House is a home-away-from-home for families who travel to Pensacola to receive critical medical treatment for their children. Representatives will be on-hand to accept donations and to share information. In addition, the Health Department 5-2-1-0 campaign will have giveaways for the first 50 children. Prize drawings — including unique art from First City Art Center — will also be available and all proceeds will go towards RMHC. Now in its fifth year, World Tennis Day was launched with the goal of promoting tennis and increasing participation among young players around the globe. It is now celebrated in more than 90 countries, an annual festival of tennis around the world in which tennis fans, clubs, facilities and promoters work with national associations to host events to celebrate participation in the sport.
