Individuals with Parkinson’s disease now have access to specialized therapy services within SHHS. Recently, Kelly Parker Armstead, MSOT, Occupational Therapist at Rehabilitation Services in Pensacola on Davis Highway, completed an intensive course in Atlanta to obtain her certification in LSVT BIG®, a rehabilitation protocol developed specifically to address the unique movement impairments of people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Research on LSVT BIG has documented improved rating on tests of motor functioning in people with Parkinson’s following treatment, such as:
- Faster walking with bigger steps;
- Improved balance and trunk rotation;
- Improvements in activities of daily living.
