Children’s Hospital Names Medical Director of Developmental Pediatrics
PENSACOLA, Fla. — Dr. Regina Gargus has been named medical director of developmental pediatrics at The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart. In this role, Dr. Gargus will oversee medical care of children at The Children’s Hospital’s Autism Center and the Western Panhandle Early Steps Program at Sacred Heart, as well as follow-up care for babies who have gone through The Children’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.
Dr. Gargus comes to Pensacola from Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she served as medical director for Siskin Children’s Institute’s Center for Developmental Pediatrics and chief for the division of developmental and behavioral pediatrics at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.
Dr. Gargus has more than 37 years of medical experience and is triple board certified in pediatrics, neonatal perinatal medicine and developmental pediatrics. Her research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, and she’s also been appointed a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Gargus received her medical degree, residency training in pediatrics and a fellowship in neonatology from Medical College of Virginia. She later performed a fellowship in developmental-behavioral pediatrics through Brown University of Medicine.
As a developmental-behavioral pediatrician, Dr. Gargus specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis and care of children with a wide range of conditions, including autism-spectrum disorders, genetic disorders, developmental delays, cognitive learning delays and sensory-integration dysfunction, as well as children who were born prematurely.
