Pensacola Opera Presents Sweeney Todd (Stephen Sondheim's Musical Operetta)

Pensacola Opera opens its 30th Anniversary Season with Stephen Sondheim's musical operetta, Sweeney Todd on October 19 and 21, 2012 at the historic Pensacola Saenger Theatre. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Pensacola Opera Center, the Saenger Theatre Box Office or online through Ticketmaster.com. Performances will be held on Friday, October 19 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, October 21 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available at seven different price levels. Sondheim's Sweeney Todd, is a chilling, suspenseful masterpiece filled with murderous barberism and culinary crime! It tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against a lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The barber's thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs soon has the people of London lining up in droves for her a taste of her new, mysterious new meat pie! Casting Includes: Dennis Jesse as Sweeney Todd, Sheila Murphy as Johanna, Elise Quagliata as Miss Lovett, Corey McKern as Anthony, Kenneth Overton as Judge Turpin, Roderick George as Beadle, Leo Day as Pirelli, Kyle Erdos Knapp as Toby, Hanan Tarabay as the Beggar Woman/Lucy and Howard Reddy as Fogg. Jerome Shannon will conduct singers, members of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra and Pensacola Opera Chorus. Dugg McDonough will stage direct. Costumes will be built and designed by Glenn Avery-Breed and lighting design will be featured by Charles Houghton. Don and Linda Guillot will design wigs and makeup. The performances will be in English with projected supertitles.
