Description
A perennial favorite, and a great way to get started with the PSO. Dress is distinctly casual (orchestra and conductor will be in denim), and the program is wide-ranging and delightfully unpredictable. Beethoven, of course, will be well represented with his second symphony, a piece that is both youthful and groundbreaking. The mood is bright, but the emotions run deep as he was coming to terms with his rapidly advancing deafness. Things go American for the 2nd half, with the kinetic energy of John Adams, the soulfulness of Barber’s famous Adagio, and Copland’s clever arrangements of the Old American Songs, with star soprano Ilana Davidson. Gershwin’s suave and jazzy American in Paris closes this eclectic and intriguing program. For additional information, please visit www.pensacolasymphony.com.
