Gulf Islands National SeashoreAnnounces Living History Camp and Candlelight Tour of Fort Pickens!
During daytime hours, the event features a living history encampment by Company C, 3rd U.S. Infantry (1860-1865) from 9AM Saturday until 3PM Sunday. Uniformed reenactors will conduct period"Colors" ceremony at 9AM on Saturday and Sunday and "Retreat" ceremony on Saturday at 5PM. Company drill demonstrations will be conducted at 10AM and 3:30PM on Saturday and 10AM on Sunday. A ranger led tour of Fort Pickens will be at 2PM both days.
Saturday evening the fort will remain open until 8:30PM for self guided candlelight tours. The event provides a rare opportunity to experience the fort at night. Costumed reenactors will be stationed around the fort answering visitor questions and providing information about Pensacola during the Civil War. Visitors should arrive no later than 8PM in order to experience the fort prior to closing at 8:30PM.
Although the fort will be lighted with candles, flashlights are allowed. Dress appropriately for the evening weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
