Gulf Islands National Seashore Closes in Preparation for Incoming Weather: 4/9/2024

GULF BREEZE, Fla. -- Gulf Islands National Seashore will close the Fort Pickens Area to include the campground beginning at 5 p.m. April 9, in preparation for incoming weather.

Campers are expected to evacuate by 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9. All Fort Pickens Campground reservations will be canceled until further notice.
Beginning Tuesday evening the weather is expected to bring winds out of the South of 22-28 mph with gusts to 35 mph and surf as high as 10 feet with the highest from Wednesday evening into Thursday mid-morning. These conditions are expected to cause significant standing water and overwash, creating unsafe and possibly impassable travel.

Park staff will review for conditions on Thursday morning. For more information, please follow the park’s social media accounts and website.
